What is Infrared Thermography Inspection?
Infrared thermography inspection is a method of inspecting any object or equipment by obtaining images of heat distribution. This infrared inspection is based on the fact that almost all objects will show an increase in temperature when a malfunction occurs. The actual and reference temperature difference or Delta T will be the basis of analysis to decide the condition of an equipment and the recommendations made. ––Omazaki Consultant is a consultant who serves infrared thermography check, survey and inspection for industries and commercial facilities. Why Thermography?
The definition of thermography is the use of infrared imaging and measurement cameras to “see” and “measure” the thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal energy, or infrared, is invisible light because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye. Infrared is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Unlike visible light, in the infrared world, anything with a temperature above absolute zero emits heat. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared.
Infrared Thermography Survey
Infrared thermography is about capturing and analyzing thermal information using a non-contact thermal imaging camera. It is based on measuring the distribution of radiant thermal energy (heat) emitted from a target surface. The results of these measurements are then converted into a surface temperature map or thermogram.
Infrared thermography survey is a non-contact and non-destructive inspection used to check or find abnormal or unexpected thermal patterns or temperature differences. In electrical systems, these thermal patterns can indicate things like loose connections, overloaded circuits or phases, damaged or deteriorating insulation or refractories, or excessive or unwanted friction, etc.
